Imagine smiling in a photo without checking your teeth first. No hiding a chipped edge. No wondering whether that one tooth looks darker than the others.
Composite bonding and porcelain veneers can both improve a smile. But the material you choose affects more than the initial price: it influences how your smile looks, wears, and ages.
First, a quick distinction
Composite bonding uses tooth-colored resin sculpted directly onto a tooth. It can repair a small chip or gap; when it covers much of the front surface, it is often called a composite veneer. A porcelain veneer is a thin ceramic shell made separately and bonded to the tooth.
At Salim Dental, our composite veneers are $150 per tooth, and our porcelain veneers are $600–$800 per tooth. Localized bonding may involve a different treatment plan; your consultation confirms your recommended care and total cost.
Why porcelain earns its premium
1. The way it catches the light. A beautiful tooth has depth, subtle translucency, and texture. Porcelain offers excellent control over these details, helping create a smile that looks natural rather than simply white. Skilled composite work can also look beautiful; porcelain gives the dental team a different range of optical possibilities.
2. Better resistance to staining. Porcelain generally holds its color better than composite. That matters when coffee, tea, and everyday life are part of your routine. Stain-resistant does not mean stain-proof, and the surrounding teeth and veneer edges still need care.
3. A finish that wears well. Composite can lose polish and develop wear over time, requiring maintenance. Porcelain generally offers better wear resistance and longer service, though either material can chip or need replacement. Your bite, grinding habits, and home care matter.
4. A smile designed as a whole. When changing several teeth, porcelain lets us plan each restoration individually while coordinating the overall smile. Tooth length, proportions, shade, and edge details all contribute to the result.
Our lab: where your smile becomes personal
At Salim Dental, our own dental laboratory makes and customizes each porcelain veneer for the individual patient. Every tooth contributes to a larger design, and each veneer needs to belong in your smile.
Customization means considering the shape and proportions of your teeth, the shade you want, the character of the surface, and the way the restorations fit together. A softer, understated smile and a brighter, more defined smile call for different design choices.
Having our clinical team and lab work together allows direct communication about those details and refinements. The goal is a result that feels personal, with a fit and bite assessed before final placement.
When composite is the smart choice
Composite deserves a place in the conversation. It offers a lower initial cost, is often completed in one visit, can require less enamel removal, and is generally easier to repair. For smaller changes or a limited budget, it may be the right fit.

Which smile is right for you?
If your priorities are lasting color, refined detail, and better wear resistance, porcelain may justify the higher initial investment. If affordability and conservative, repairable changes come first, composite may suit you better.
